OUR STORY

Partners in life, chef Liezie Mulder and master baker Markus Färbinger, conceived the unique culinary landscape that is île de pain – “island of bread” – in 2002. île de païn became a vibrant and welcoming hub where locals and visitors could eat and meet. Following a devastating fire in 2015 they co-created “îdp2.0” along with a new team selected for their unique skills and individual approaches, reopening in November 2016.

île de païn is a place to gather, making friends of strangers. We depend on an integrated community including small farmers, producers and growers who supply the uncompromisingly fresh, wholesome and flavourful ingredients essential to our art. It is our intention to share our enthusiasm and love for food and life with others – these are that qualities that attract so many people to île de païn.
